Save yourself the mortifying shame of damaging an M1 Garand rifle as a result of firing excessively powerful .30-06 Springfield ammo. Choose .30-06 that was carefully loaded in accordance with M2 ball specifications instead. More specifically, choose this fine ammo by Hornady!

Regular .30-06 ammunition is allowed to have a chamber pressure as high as 60,000 psi. That’s surely enough to damage an M1 Garand’s somewhat fussy operating rod. *This* ammo, on the other hand, has a chamber pressure of 50,000 psi – right on the money as far as an M1’s op rod is concerned.

The 150 grain full metal jacket is enough bullet to get any job done, even when its muzzle velocity falls at the lower end of the spectrum. (WWII is evidence enough of that.) Even so, most would agree that the FMJ’s ideal use case is plain old target shooting – i.e. not deer hunting.

Hornady made these in Nebraska. They’re new, noncorrosive, reloadable, and only available in 50-round boxes until we run out (which we expect to be soon, because M1 Garand owners hunt for this stuff on the reg).
